Maelstrom disabled inertness independent acceptance — 2026-10-24

PASS, offline independent acceptance of unchanged repair 9aa3754b605de778610d63c3a35346cfb7705cae, candidate tree a3c6345a13efe2a4b83eb53158dd41311df7bcbe. Conditional integration is scoped to the passive select lifecycle observer and its retained evidence. It does not accept guest/API results or qualify runtime behavior.

The repaired observer reads enabled before its unused limit options. The transform returns the exact source on the disabled path before reading lifecycle or pins. Enabled transformation reads only its two named pins after validating lifecycle limits. The accepted event observer remains byte-identical SHA-256 52909f8dc9e39c9c294602c952d9bbbf4e91c52d5c56ddbba45fb3cb30d9e226.

Both pinned suites pass on the exact candidate: nine lifecycle rejecting mutations and six accepted-event rejecting mutations, with transformed setup exercised using fake instantiate only. No actual WebAssembly object, compilation or native execution occurs. The passing wrapper makes the same three calls as the original reproducer and requires zero unused getter accesses, exact source/instance identities and no output. It exits 0 on the repair and rejects original candidate 0e1b2df6e3adff9ad43424966a389c2ea6af227e with exit 1. The unchanged historical reproducer still demonstrates three failures on that original candidate. Its SHA remains bff8bfe8322b0fb3086e7c79bf1fc48d526766d47b71de6362f7315c72e7a3a6; its unconditional failing reporter is historical negative evidence.

Nine independent adversarial cases pass. These cover inherited disabled options, revoked opaque source/instance/memory/sink arguments, detached observer methods, the exact enabled pin-read sequence with enumeration forbidden, invalid enabled configuration before pin/source access, exact identity of four thrown primitives, continued original runs without reads after finish, and permanent closure after a callback-shaped departure followed by the identical original stack/thunk. The latter cannot revive retries or manufacture a witnessed return.

The complete candidate/main diff contains 127 scoped paths, 599413 bytes: original capture evidence, lifecycle observer/test/fixture, prior rejection and repair. All paths and blob hashes are inventoried; JSON/JSONL syntax is checked. Production and test code plus the four substantive reports and original command, terminal, event and source-identity evidence were inspected. Existing coordinator seals for the original capture and historical payloads were reused. No unrelated path or accepted-event observer change is included. Historical errors and charges remain.

Call identity includes thunk/metadata/ESP and all six saved stack words. Matching cleared pre-state, reason-8 post-state and non-guard halt distinguish retry-shaped pairs from pending halt-4 guards. Unknown transitions close tracking. Return candidates stay unknown, witnessed returns stay zero, API result/completion and select deadline remain unavailable/unobserved. Cached tick_count comparisons do not observe host_get_ticks, deadline progress or freeze. The original capture proves arrival only; no later-record absence or final 972 counts imply execution. scratch/usage-watch/maelstrom-select-return-runtime-gate-oct24.json stays unresolved.

Fresh resource admission preceded checkout and tests. It accounts for newly owned files/Git, full external launcher/session logs/WAL, positive SQLite growth, future publication/transitive objects, and 8 MiB reserve inside 64 MiB. The SQLite baseline follows initial instruction/receipt reads; pre-baseline growth was not measured. Standing tools and read-only donors were reused without copying object stores. All transitive suite dependencies, including the head observer, were checked before tests. Sparse flattened alternates reuse the repair checkout receipt. No fetch, clone, repack, full-tree checkout, mount, guest, box, download, deployment or worker. No conditional guest mount argv exists; the unchanged trusted SSH receipt applies.

Cheap commands use Node heap 256 MiB, CPU/wall 60 s, output 128 KiB, files 24 MiB, and process-group TERM/KILL/reap within 5 s. One source inspection combined two bounded excerpts into a 10204-byte tool result, exceeding the 8 KiB per-read target; this limitation is retained rather than claiming perfect read compliance. Initial receipt inspection also requested an absent historical filename; no denial or dependent operation was retried. No production repair was needed in this review.

Adjacent evidence retains preflight, candidate captures, independent regressions, complete diff inventory, admission and command receipts. Final exact merged-tree suite/syntax/diff results, actual remote main/task SHAs, committed artifact availability, resource and cleanup receipts are in /tmp/maelstrom-select-inertness-independent-closeout-oct24/ops/result.json. Integration/publication must hold scratch/usage-watch/shared-integration.lock, freshly reconcile main, preserve the unchanged candidate as a merge parent, run both suites and all 15 mutations on the exact resulting tree, and verify remote refs after strict SSH push without force. A mismatch stops publication.

Root tracked/index/refs and all donors remain read-only; root messageboard is append-only. Claude idle. No assigned box: coordinator reports bx_qa9ex5bu stopped; bx_69aem736 is untouched/unqueried. Coordinator retains lifecycle ownership.
